Whitney Thompson; Plus-size supermodel, spokesperson for NEDA and creator of "Supermodel".

My goal is to encourage and inspire you to celebrate your miraculous, exquisite, and unique body. I want you to resist the negative messages being sold to you by the media. You are beautiful. You are unique. Here, we want to help you remember that.

If I can convey one message to you:
Healthy is Beautiful. Beautiful is not a size, not an age, and not a procedure. Healthy is beautiful."

“Beautiful” is celebrating the characteristics and qualities of your body, while nourishing and exercising
it to be as uniquely healthy and fit as only you can be. We are all created differently and I want you to stop trying to fit into a mold that someone else has defined as "beautiful". No one size will ever be accepted by everyone and it's important to accept that we are all different. I want you to be the best that you can be.

Your comments are welcome here, even if we don't agree. I appreciate all comments as long as they don't hurt others.

Always remember, life is too short to not live like a SuperModel!

New Top Model!

The newest season of Top Model started out particularly cruel. With every season, forty girls come out but only 13-14 are ever chosen to move into the Top Model House. This cycle, Tyra pulled a mean fake out on the girls. She chose not to show the reactions of the contestants that she has just told were accepted onto the show and then immediately rejected behind closed doors. I realize that this is for television but these girls have real emotions and I don’t think that the fake out was necessary or cool. My heart goes out to all of the ones that didn’t make it even though I think the contestants on the show are fantastic.
I am a little biased as a plus sized Wilhelmina model but I do love Kasia, the “fiercely real” girl. She seems really light-hearted and young even though she’s twenty-six! I would have guessed that she was still a teen and she is absolutely gorgeous. I do think that her walk needs some work and I’m still a little baffled as to why Tyra pulled a girl that was already signed to Wilhelmina and was a successful plus model and stuck her on Top Model, but I’m hoping that Tyra has some secret, good reasoning behind all of that.
Now. let’s get to the bubble runway. Funny enough, I actually saw this done at Full figured Fashion Week in New York City and I thought the same thing then as I do now, it looks dumb. The bubble had a huge gash of silver duct tape rolling around which really takes away from the “look”. It’s a really interesting concept and I think that it could be done well, but not with duct tape across the front, lined with cheap confetti and in the middle of a swimming pool. Once again, I attribute this to the fact that everything on ANTM has to make for good television. Yet, I admit that I watched with horror and delight as each model teeter-tottered down the 12” runway! It got my attention and there are few things more satisfying then watching a model fall on her face and not be able to get back up! Bravo, Tyra for being a genius and please keep the stunts coming for the rest of the season!
I actually got to shoot with Russell James on my cycle of Top Model and he is my absolute favorite photographer! Everything he touches is so full of life. His work is brilliant but for a cycle opener I expected a lot more. The pictures were beautiful but I wanted to see someone on fire, jumping on a trampoline with a message for curing cancer. I think that this was one of the most boring shoots to date. I found myself tweeting while it was going on as well as being confused whether or not that was the “actual” shoot or if there would be another before panel. However, nothing made me giggle more than Nigel describing a girl’s mouth in her photograph as “cat’s bottom mouth”. He continued by showing us the “cat’s bottom” face and Nigel is so handsome that it really was hilarious watching this. I can only hope that he doesn’t say such things about my pictures!
Looking forward to seeing girls stung by bees next Wednesday!

  1. I would be lying if I said I didn't get a kick out of the fake out for the girls who were at first told they didn't make the cut, but then I thought, "Wait, what about the ones they told were in, did they just tell them, "Syche! You ladies aren't it." That would be terrible and I'd be really pissed.

They seem to have chosen an interesting group of girls. They all have a variety of personalities and looks. I think this group is a little more memoriable than cycles past where all the girls look the same and have little personality, except for maybe 2 of the outstanding contestants. All in all, I think they seem to be getting more professional and glamourous right from the start. They seem to be changing a little bit of the whole process in small amounts at a time. I guess that's what will keep the show alive and avoid it seeming so redundant.

  2. I wish they would have hired actors for the opening let down. I worry about those girls who went home. I would love to hear one of them do an interview!
