Whitney Thompson; Plus-size supermodel, spokesperson for NEDA and creator of "Supermodel".

My goal is to encourage and inspire you to celebrate your miraculous, exquisite, and unique body. I want you to resist the negative messages being sold to you by the media. You are beautiful. You are unique. Here, we want to help you remember that.

If I can convey one message to you:
Healthy is Beautiful. Beautiful is not a size, not an age, and not a procedure. Healthy is beautiful."

“Beautiful” is celebrating the characteristics and qualities of your body, while nourishing and exercising
it to be as uniquely healthy and fit as only you can be. We are all created differently and I want you to stop trying to fit into a mold that someone else has defined as "beautiful". No one size will ever be accepted by everyone and it's important to accept that we are all different. I want you to be the best that you can be.

Your comments are welcome here, even if we don't agree. I appreciate all comments as long as they don't hurt others.

Always remember, life is too short to not live like a SuperModel!

The Waist Heard 'Round the World

I’m sure that all of you know the controversy going on about Tyra Banks’ reaction to a model’s waist on a CW commercial for the newest Top Model season. I just want to say that Tyra Banks is a supporter of all women’s shapes as long as they are healthy. She should not be faulted for her reaction. I think that she seemed just as interested in the unusual size of the models’ waist as she was when she first saw Toccara’s enormous breasts. It is normal for people to react to an oddity on someone else and I certainly don’t believe that Tyra envy’s the tiny waist or would want to encourage other girls to look like that. I k now that Tyra has struggled with her weight and that she is in a really great place right now. She eats healthily and works out regularly while juggling an extremely demanding schedule. I really look up to Tyra. She is an icon and continues to be a great role model to women everywhere.
I also think that people forget how involved Tyra is in Top Model. She edits everything and the only reason we saw her reaction to the tiny waist is because she wanted us to. Tyra Banks is not stupid. She knew that this would generate press about the new season and she won. We are all talking about it.

  1. I totally agree. Tyra wasn't acting envious of the model's waist- She was shocked by it. I mean, she would comment on a model with size 18 feet, too. Tyra always says that everyone is unique, and I don't think people should look down on the model for being "too skinny." The question is whether or not she is healthy. In the past, Tyra has refused to cast girls who appear to have an eating disorder. I don't think that model looked sick or anything; she just had a shockingly small waist. However, since sample sizes are, what? 2s? A double-zero model wouldn't be useful to most designers anyway.

  2. This reminds me of the controversy a year ago about Ralph Lauren's model they airbrushed to an unnatural state. That model on ANTM looked so much like that picture. Maybe she has a future with Ralph Lauren after what they did last year.
